What you need to know
What to expect during your appointment
When you arrive for you appointment we will discuss the solution and level of color that will work best for your skin. You will then undress to your comfort level, a shower cap will be provided to cover your hair, and disposables are available upon request. Lotion will be placed on your fingernails, toenails and palms to protect them from discoloration. The spray tan process will only take 5-10 minutes, alternating between spraying the tanning solution and drying it. After you are sprayed the lotion will be removed from hands and feet and you will be able to redress.
PREP
Exfoliate before your treatment to remove dry, flaky skin that causes uneven tanning. Before spray tanning, your skin should be clean. Avoid products like bar soaps or sugar and salt scrubs that can leave residue and stop the DHA reaction. Dove soap should also be avoided.
Do not apply lotions or perfumes prior to tanning. Use deodorant very sparingly. You should shave the day before you tan if possible. Wear dark and loose fitting clothing. Tight clothes can rub off your spray tan, wear something that is easy to redress into. Do not wear jeans. After your first shower you can return to wearing normal clothing If it looks like rain be sure to grab a rain jacket and/or umbrella on your way out, remember you won't be able to get wet after your session. |
POST
Immediately after your spray tanning session you may not get wet for at least 6 hours, avoid activities that may cause you to sweat. Use the air conditioning in your car on a hot day. Remember, you have just been “painted” with a water soluble solution and you must avoid water entirely for at least 6 hours or you will stop the tanning action of the DHA
Wait at least six hours before showering or bathing with any kind of soap or shower gel. When you take your first shower you will see color washing off, do not worry this is supposed to happen and is not your tan it is only the cosmetic bronzer, use this as a guide and rinse until the water is clear to ensure you have gotten all of the bronzer off. |
CARE
Refrain from taking long hot showers or baths to prolong the life of your tan, use unscented gentle body washes when showering. No Dove products or bar soaps. Pat dry instead of rubbing skin with towel. Moisturize daily from your first shower on, use gentle unscented lotion. Avoid anything that exfoliates, such as alpha hydroxy and glycolic creams/lotions.
Going in pools, the ocean or hot tubs can shorten the life of your tan. Avoid chlorine for at least 24 hours after your tan. |
